Course Content Course Objectives
On completion of this 5 day course Participants will have created and designed original artwork using Adobe Indesign / Photoshop and Bridge and processed it all the way through to the final printed product. Along the way they will learn the standard working procedures for bringing a job from design to print and at the end of the course will have a solid understanding of the industry terms and procedures needed to bring a job from design to print. This knowledge will include the complete print production process and will allow them to easily identify what can go wrong in a design/print job and how to avoid this. Their comprehensive knowledge will ensure that they fully understand the steps needed to ensure they deliver error-free files to their service provider, avoiding costly mistakes.

Course Outline
Days 1 & 2 Adobe Indesign
On Day 1 and 2 Participants will learn to use Adobe Indesign, the Industry standard application for both Print and Digital design, with an emphasis on Print Design and Pre-Press output. At the end of the two Days the Participants will be familiar with setting up documents for print, importing images, typography and type setting. They will be familiar with print industry terminology and specifications / Preflight customization and will be able to output a document to a final print ready PDF.

Day 3 Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Bridge
On Day 3 Participants will learn to use Adobe Photoshop (the industry standard image editing application) to resize and check the images they will be using in there printed files. They will develop an understanding of colour modes, resolution and colour profiles and become aware of how these settings carry through into their layout application (Indesign), and the need for these specifications and formatting within the print documents they create.

Day 4 Practical Design & Layout
On Day 4 Participants will work with Indesign and Photoshop combined on the Design and Layout of a 16 page A5 Booklet which will go to press on Day 5.

Day 5 On Site
On Day 5 the Participants will visit a Dublin print shop to experience the Production Process through its various stages: Booking the job in, Costing the job, The receipt of the Art Work, The journey the Artwork takes from the Artwork department through flight check, Rip to the Separations and Plate making. Seeing the Job onto the Machine for Print and through to finishing and packaging.

Entry Requirements Note: A sound knowledge of computer fundamentals and file management is essential to get the maximum benefit from this course.
